Online vintage furniture marketplace 1stdibs just made the move from website to brick and mortar showroom. They've taken over the entire 10th floor of the New York Design Center, and they open to the public tomorrow (2/18). In short, it's the most upscale antique mall ever — we had fun getting a sneak preview of the space and fantasizing about which big-ticket items we'd take home if we had the cash.
Dealers from the US, Canada, Paris, and London are gathered together in a gutted-and-renovated 33,000 square foot space. Previously open to the trade only, the NYDC has unlocked its doors to the public, allowing anyone to visit the 10th floor showroom (just take the dedicated express elevator). Whether you're a designer or a retail shopper, you can tour the fifty-three dealer booths in person.
The types of items on display range from a signed Karl Springer pedestal desk ($10,000 at Metropolis Modern) to a hand-blown glass Belleville Chandelier ($6,700 at Bourgeois Boheme) to a 1940s taxidermy mink ($450 at Heir Antiques).
So, why the move from online-only content to a brick and mortar business? 1stdibs founder Michael Bruno says, "With our ten year anniversary quickly approaching, this felt like the right time to expand our services beyond the virtual world while still utilizing technology to enhance the shopping experience." The NYDC views the collaboration as a way to reach a broader audience. Design Center President Jim Druckman calls it "the first and most important step" towards making the NYDC a go-to resource for more than just the trade.

If Swag-Douche who pretends to speak from experience actually knew this to be true, then why would he tell everyone, that's not doing the people he's done business with any help. Oh, I almost forgot this guy is a troll and a hater who's pretending to be an insider. It's so obvious when you read his other naive hater comments.
