A friend sent me a link to this toddler room because she thought it would be something I liked. She couldn't have been more right. In fact, this room incorporates two of my favorite things - stripes and dark paint.
Rachel of New York Nursery Tales created this beautiful room for her toddler Hudson. Although it looks like perfection, this is just a sneak peek; Rachel will do a final reveal to her readers in the near future. The combination of bright yellow horizontal stripes next to the dark inky wall pairs two of my favorite things into one room. For a similar look, recall this striped ceiling. Be sure to check out Rachel's blog to see Hudson's full room reveal soon.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Sorry, but I think that's hideous.
Hideous!? No way! This room is so modern and fun! Such a fun break from the typical "boy" room. Can't wait to see the rest!
I love it, it looks great! And if you think it's hideous, you don't have to do it... is it really necessary to make that comment?
Yeah, not a fan.
Love it!
LOVE IT! The combo of yellow, white and navy is classic and the horizontal stripes make it edgy!
PS if you check out Maryshe's comment history, she's generally negative. Oh well, to each their own!
Oops disregard last comment :-) except for the "to each their own" part
cute room :) and i LOVE the name hudson for a little kid growing up in nyc!
cool! but... not diggin' the rug. LOVE the blue with the stripes. a bright green rug with a green paper lantern would be fab.
lools, are you stalking me? Where are you finding my "generally negative" comments? Your comments are sort of a personal attack.
I don't care for the yellow stripes and the rug looks like a beach towel. Someone said navy but the wall looks black to me. I thought it was chalkboard paint at first, but maybe not.
Oh, I see now. It was lools who thought the wall was navy. It's pretty clearly black if you look at the tags.
its funny, it looked navy to me too, but now on this comp it looks black. either way, cute colors.
chill mommas, chill.
Thanks for all the comments! So funny about the fight over the love/hate comments. It's my house and my husband hates it! I'm kind of embarrassed about the rug as well! It is temporary until I find the bedding and textiles I want to complete the look of the room. This picture was taken hours after completing the room. If you have any suggestions on a green rug please, please send them to me! I need to buy a bigger bed as well and have been debating over the Sparrow bed from Oeuf.
I've seen the wall in person and it's navy.
just kidding...
This room is great! Can't wait to see more, great job Hudsons Mommy!
Oh boy! I wish Oh Dee Doh would let you delete comments you make! Sorry, Maryshe. I clicked on your name to see other comments you may have made on other photos because sometimes there are people who have a habit of making negative comments just to be jerky. I totally misread a couple comments in your profile referring to something else as hideous and realized it right away. That's why I posted my comment "oops" immediately. Don't mean to cause drama! Personally, if I don't like a room I just won't comment on it. You know the saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. But that's just me. To each their own. :-)
So lools, if you had taken your own advice, there wouldn't have been any "drama," would there? I'm referring to your comment "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." It is possible to disagree with someone's opinion without insulting the person. So many people on the internet do not understand that.
I assume that all comments do not have to be "Love it!" on this site. If we all had the same tastes, it would be a boring place, no?
I would be interested to hear what others with ADD, SPD or ASD think about the room. Both of my kids disliked the room, too. I am thinking that the combination of the stripes and the black wall are distracting to persons with sensory integration issues. It's like an assault on the brain for me. I could not function in such a room.
Maryshe,
It's my son's room and it just so happens that he has SPD and has no issues with it. He sleeps soundly. I was hesitant to do it because of the SPD. If you read my blog you'd see that it took me 3 years to actually have the guts to paint it.
I "borrowed" the concept from Jenna Lyon's the creative director of J.Crew. Her son's nursery is similar.
The wall is navy and clearly navy compared to the other wall not shown which is a chalk board wall. My son played in this room last night and absolutely loved it. It's just paint people with a great creative mind behind it. Sure it's not the hideous pastel colors with hand painted flowers parents can't bring themselves to paint over later or Disney characters ( btw I love Disney) that every other kids room has.
HudsonsMommy can take the criticism or else she wouldn't be so strong to have her own blog with thousands of creative ideas, that comes with the territory. Don't hate because she didn't follow the same guidelines as yours or your typical kids room. Way to go HudsonsMommy xoxo
Sheesh! My admittedly too-quick & inaccurate comment was intended to point out that some people are just generally negative and was directed at Hudsonsmommy, to make her feel better about the negative comment. Of course, everyone has different tastes and that makes the world go round. I just don't find it all that necessary to post something as "hideous" - kind of a strong word. But whatever. I apologized and tried to clear it up and now I'm DONESY!
<3 the room, Hudsonsmommy
