The twenty chairs were auctioned off with the proceeds donated to the non-profit foundation ONEXONE, which is committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children at home in the U.S., Canada, Haiti and Africa. Last year at IDS11, twenty designers reworked the Vitra Pantone Chair, much to the horror of many Apartment Therapy readers (see last year's post 20 Ways to Change a Classic Vitra Pantone Chair). Do you think the Magis Chairs Redesigns are more successful this year?

I think these were wildly successful -- much more so than the Pantone chairs. Perhaps a more playful starting point helped with the designers' inspiration. These also received better placement than last years Pantone chairs (I almost missed those way at the back last year). Loved the Armour Chair and the very on-brand orange jacket by Joe Fresh!
I agree these redesigned/decorated chairs were much better than last year's chairs, which looked like what my kids could have made. Though there were a few duds in the group this year there were a number of stellar pieces which got some impressive bids when I was there.
My favorites were the ones that were got really creative and innovative, not merely decorated on the surface. I liked Bruce Mau's cute miniature model train-like nature scene built inside the chair, the Jenuine Julian witty parody of the bearskin rug, and the solid concrete and wood chair by Hariri Pontarini which I would love for my backyard patio.
I hope ONEXONE raised a lot of money. I can't wait to see next year's creations!
BTW, it's Panton chair (as in Vernor Panton), not Pantone (as in color).
