Of course, "happy" means a lot to many different people. And certainly, individual tastes play a big part in whether you find a particular light fixture happy or not. But we think there are a few characteristics that make a light happy across the board, like bubbly, round shapes, bold colors, quirky forms, fun patterns and more.

What do you think makes a light fixture seem happy? Do you have any happy lights in your home that make you smile whether they're turned on or not?

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
I'd advise strongly against buying the very first lamp (West Elm Perch Glass Lamp). It's extremely lightweight and for a glass lamp: DANGER. I had it less than 2 weeks before it was tapped lightly (and I mean lightly - with a pillow), fell off the table and shattered in to many, many pieces. Glass lamps need a very sturdy base.
Like them all but really like Anthropologie Fruiteria Base $348
I found something like this at an outlet in blue/green but was disappointed when I brought the home. The glass was way too light to fit in with the rest of my livingroom; seem darker in the store. Took them back. :o(
The pierced porcelain jars are candleholders, not light fixtures. Bummer.

For all budgets?
I'll admit to being extremely frugal through both choice & necessity, (I'd rather use my money to travel) but my idea of a great table lamp is the gorgeous faux-bamboo style ginger jar one I recently bought from my local goodwill for $5.99.
I love the Fruiteria lamp and the Lights Up! lamp in the first gallery, very cheerful!
The West Elm Pierced Porcelain Jars- perhaps the large is big enough for a string of christmas lights? Then it can function more like a lamp...
With some table lamps, pendant lights, sconces and more...
Wait, where are the sconces? I don't see any here. I'm desperately looking for some (hard-wired, not plug-in) that aren't hideous, but coming up empty.
@madame suggia - since this post is clearly about retail options where one can easily find the profiled lamps, how would your goodwill find fit in? Are you suggesting that anyone can go to their local goodwill and find the exact same lamp for the exact same price? of course not. But, since there are lamp options listed @ $8 and $19, I imagine those would approach even *your* frugal standards.
Reporting your find would be more relevant in the craigslist/flea market "finds" post, where there is no suggestion of mass availability.
@Mawrtyr88 Amen to that.
We usually prefer vintage lighting in our home. Some of our "happy" favorites include the Laurel lamp with its thin, delicate stand topped with the round mushroom shape. And the classic George Nelson bubble lamp is cheerful yet soothing at the same time. I do love that Bubble Light No. 5 above though!! Might be a perfect addition in our kitchen!
@mawrtyr88 & @SwingNCocoa sorry, I didn't make myself clear (blame the heavy-duty allergy meds, I'm *not* functioning at all well today!) re the lighting budget.
What I'm trying to say is, if a post is entitled 'for all budgets', then surely it should contain options for all-or even most-budgets, maybe even some DIY options?
yeah I'm with Madame Suggia - none of these are in my budget. (Except the one that's not actually a lamp.) Wishing the Fruiteria one was though!
kmk355 - Lights Up! by Meridian has several sconce options with shades if that's what you're looking for. You can get a look at some of the options at sites like DesignPublic. My husband and I saved our money and bought a small sconce (http://www.designpublic.com/shop/lights-up/5286) and two Oscar boudoir lamps over a period of a few months. They're a little pricy but totally worth it.
Another thing about the Perch Glass Lamp from West Elm ... the cord is not threaded through the base. It's kind of hard to see in most pictures because it is hidden. To me it looks kind of cheap. Best to check it out in the store before you buy.
I don't see how a post that has $8 and $19 dollar lights *isn't * hitting "all or even most" budgets. The difference between $8 and $5.99 is so small it's ridiculous that one is in the budget and the other one's not. Aso, dragging in DIY and then conflating it with budget? Please. DIY isn't necessarily cheap.
This is a good post and good videos&photos.
