One of the things that I miss most about New York is the feeling of complete solitude while walking amongst so many. Great ideas would often come standing on a crowded subway. Maybe it’s something to do with grooving off the human energy without having to deal with all of that pesky human interaction. That's why I say, Thank god for the Beverly Center. I often go to the mall when I need to clear my head. Maybe it’s Pavlovian, placing myself in the center of so many aimless walkers to recreate the calm in my head. I also love the excuse to just wander and window shop. And then there's my dirty little secret, Z Gallery. Unless you are Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Z Gallery is not your one-stop shop (it is odd how many people think feathers can “class up” a pillow or bath mat) Look past the animal print lamp shades however, and you can find some great accessories (there is always a perfect house gift for around $20) This mirrored furniture has been all the rage over the past few, and this piece is a great example (for less than half of what La Brea shops are asking.) After looking at the super subtle and quite similar palettes of the Crates and the Restorations and the Barns and the rest of the Mall’s mainstay, it’s nice to look at a little color , as my mother used to say. So don't tell anyone, but I say check out the Z Gallery. And hell, who am I to say not to live like a Gabor. Long live the florish! AH
