In typical LA style, this past weekend whisked in the kind of weather that reminds us that yes, the hot, hot summer is in fact closer than we think. While the first blast of heat was quickly squelched by the old air conditioner, as soon as that first DWP bill gets here, I’ll be kicking myself. Another problem with staying cool is that there is nothing less cool than a big plastic fan whirring away in the corner of a room. Fortunately a funky, retro, metal fan always looks good. I love the ALLAIR fans at Restoration Hardware. These fans look substantial enough to sit like a lamp in any space in the house. I also like the funky, industrial vibe of those ground fans like the one from Hampton Bay (at The Home Depot for $35.00.) These ground fans tend to be a lot louder, but I quite like the white noise as I drift off to sleep. We are going to be heading into some hot weather, so we might as well make the most of it. Save the money-guzzling air conditioners for when you are desperate, make yourself a nice gin and tonic, and sit yourself in front of your fan…At least that’s how I like to deal with the summer heat.
