Name: NanaHu
Location: Chicago
Type: 2 bedroom apartment, renting since May
Why I use color:"Since We rent, adding color to an apartment really makes the space yours. Our apartment came with great built in cases, so we painted it with bright, graphic colors to highlight our collection of knickknacks that would go in the cases. We also wanted the house to have a rhythm, so we paced the a few bright walls with white space and used our toys, books, etc to pick up the color within the white space. I think it visually leads the eye through our house and creates different mixed color compositions."

2 Good color tips:
"We used really bold colors for 2 high traffic portions of our house, but didn't paint every single wall in the room...I would suggest when adding color to a space, especially a bright color, is not to cover all 4 walls with the same color."

2 Good color tips:
"I strongly believe in contrast. I love keeping within the same tone family and contrasting it with colors from other families in small objects or furniture. It allows the secondary color family room to really pop and your primary colors to breathe."

Favorite type and brand of paint:"We used Behr."

I love the boombox
Nice...I like how you fearlessly display stuff that you like in all corners.
Where oh where is that ABC poster from?
Rasabasa, I'll chime in on the answer to your question. The ABC poster is by Experimental Jetset for the documentary Helvetica, there are several limited edition posters, including that one, available on the site -- just click on "shop".
Bright. Fun. I like how you repeat certain colours and are not afraid to be bold. Keeping some white space is good, as is defining your palette to some degree (here: yellow, orange, white, black, brown/wood tones).
i think the colors you chose for paint go really well with the wood trim and i love how bright it is. very nice.
Like the little shots of yellow. I really like that helvetic poster. I'ma need to get me one.
Would you please ship that yellow, black and red art poster in your living room to me right away? I'll give you my address. LOL.
This place is great. It isn't my personal style but I dig it. I have a friend who is really into second hand finds but his place misses the mark. Your apartment is how it should be done.
P.S.
My only gripe is that you used a gloss instead of flat wall paints.
That poster in the living room is some limited edition poster by the graffiti artist that now makes all those smoking rabbits for kidrobot. My boyfriend just about killed me when I put holes in the corners.
Thanks for all the lovely comments! I was really nervous about all this!
I like the strip of green thats pretty original! Was that an accident?
Reminds me of my grandmothers house growing up. And, I mean that in the cozy, unpretentiously happy way.
yeah, looks like a place to be happy in. also, should look warm even in the winter.
The green strip, was a left over from when we painted the dining room back to white.
I'd like to see a house tour of your place...it is unconventional, eclectic and inviting...i like your color combos and collections.
I like happy clutter.
