#20 - Nicole & Jon's Kitchen to Smile About

Name: Nicole & Jon
Location: Portland
Type: 1927 Colonial, own

Why I use color:

To simply and easily transform a space. Since I love to cook and entertain, I tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I wanted that space to be something I could smile about. When I found these great kitschy tiki knobs in a local co-op grocery store clearance bin I knew I had found the perfect start to a great kitchen theme, and as a bonus, they were really cheap ($3 for all four!) I also love typography, and my favorite swanky dingbat font fit perfectly, so I made my own stencils with an x-acto knife and thick plastic!

2 good color tips:

1. Our local paper stores are amazing, they always have great patterned and textured paper in all wonderful color combinations and the beautiful letter pressed cards are worth a trip all by themselves, lots and lots of eye candy.

2. Knitting, there's nothing like throwing yarn together to figure out what colors work together and what colors don't, it's instant gratification.

2 good color resources:

1. Oblation Papers.

2. OFFICE. Not only is the store itself FULL of amazing examples of great color design, the artists they feature are amazing!)
