Pitch: Moving together and merging everything two people own and have accumulated thru life is always hard. But giving up the space of two apartments, one of them a 1000 sqft in Brooklyn Heights, and a smaller one, for the opportunity to buy a house, and merge everything in one apartment in the house was very tough...
Pitch Cont'd: The editing of everything we owned took a full year, although there are good things that sit in a garage for now, awaiting a country home purchase.
The challenge was to merge two completely different styles, hers classic with a modern twang, and his, definitely classic with beautiful antiques. We kept the kidney shaped table and the card table which can be used as a small writing desk, or serving the dual purpose of becoming a dining table when guests arrive right under the tree, and the "cloud" pendant.
Keeping a 50 inch plasma tv in the garage was not an option, and having one large sectional would take too much space, so the decision was made, that the living room would be more of a louge/tv area, to serve our daily needs. We are lucky to have two balconies, and the living room balcony extends into our dining room from early spring thru late fall. The Eames chairs (one just purchased, another on its way, and a cool gnome table maybe soon) create another conversation area, and the sette in the corner, creates yet another good spot to consume our lattes on Saturday mornings.
Your favorite element: Hers: The Gallery in the hallway, her handmade curtains and pillow cases. His: the tree designed and painted by Ana, and her Canna painting.
