Buying local for the holidays is not only gratifying because you're supporting local businesses but it's also more convenient--no shipping costs, no wait time, and we love that is gives us a chance to get out into the world (before it gets nuts in a few weeks) and enjoy some holiday spirit. Here are 25 of our favorite spots to grab one of a kind gifts for every budget:
East Side:
Reform School: has an awesome selection of handmade objects, posters, design, decor and gift ideas.
Kelly Green: focuses on cool, green sustainable design from reclaimed wood headboards to compostable plant containers to cardboard antlers. Plus the store's namesake has a pretty cool house too.
Living Room: has great home accessories from pillows to vases to furniture and art.
Intelligentsia: to pick up a half pound of great coffee with an injection of great design.
Potted in Atwater has all of your mod plant and garden needs. Whether you're looking to by a succulent arrangement, some mid century inspired outdoor furniture or the fixings to make your own living arrangements.
Happy: Gregory's recent post on Happy says it all.
Yolk has design and lots of it. Great coffee table books, pillows and the kind of cool design-y things you find in modern museum bookstores.
Feeding Birds Boutique: Vintage glassware to globes to cool vintage posters and clothes.
Hollywood
Plastica: not everything is made of plastic at this 3rd St. favourite, but this gift boutique will especially appeal to those unafraid of vibrant colours and tactile modern shapes.
Moss is a great go-to for modern design and interesting accessories.
Melrose Trading Post: you never know what you'll find at this classic weekly flea market.
Jonathan Adler: for some happy chic accessories--we love the salt and pepper shakers.
Ten Over 6: might be more known for it's fashion forward clothing, but they have a great selection of housewares and lindsey adelman lighting.
Westside
Urbanic Paper Boutique: Our go-to stationery store. Letterpress, wrapping paper, some craft supplies, journals, candles and custom invitations.
Tortoise: Simple Japanese Design. The General store has lots of stuff to choose from: great glassware to christmas ornaments to beautiful trash cans.
Big Red Sun: the succulent wonderland. Big Red Sun has the best arrangements and living containers we've seen. Stop into their housewares section for vintage and modern home accessories and plenty of plants!
Empiric: vintage anatomy charts, great bar accessories and home decor. A little quirky with lots of interesting one of a kind finds.
A Plus R: The store is run by the coolest couple in LA, they have an eye for good design and are willing to take risks on fun objects. We're always surprised when we go in and come out wanting everything.
Firefly: we love cruising through this shop for great hand soaps, coffee table books, thomas paul plates and interesting succulent arrangements.

Shaw's Original Fir...
OK Store (http://www.okstore.la/) has neat stuff; I would shop there more often if I was rolling in the dough.
I love lists like these! Does anyone happen to know where the pendant lamps in the first pic are from? I think I saw a post on them a short while ago, but I can't recall it.
I am pretty sure that Moss closed down.
I like local to be local, not an LA location of some national brand. Vroman's, Clover, and Hollyhock.
unabridged--they're from A plus R!
Crimson--uh oh, really? :(
Reform School and Kelly Green are my two favorite home shops in Silverlake! I always stop into both when I'm there, and they are definitely great gift stores. You can't go wrong with a beautiful plant, coffee table book, or some nifty gadget.
Oh, and this isn't home oriented, but Amoeba is always good for gifts.
OK and New Stone Age!
Show on Vermont in Los Feliz.

Lemon Tree Bungalow on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood is my go-to place for gifts, especially for the girls/women in my life. I've done entire shopping there one Christmas Eve.
Thanks much for the light info LoriSF and laure!
Feeding Birds Boutique really does have a gift for everyone on your list! They sell clothing for men, women, babies, toddlers & kids as well as fabulous handmade accessories and great vintage home finds. Aside from the eco-message they put out (selling organic print t-shirts & onesies and vintage goodies) the best part is that they are EXTREMELY reasonably priced!!!
(and don't follow you around the store.)
