A quick and easy way to make a room visually interesting is to add texture. There are plenty of ways you can add texture to a room but as a renter, we need simple solutions that can travel with us when we move. Our favorite three examples are a cinch--pics and links after the jump.

Adding a bit of pattern or fluffiness to your space with a rug instantly makes any dull room come to life. We love the traditional flokati rug (which simultaneously adds a bit of coziness).

Mirrors--not only do they open up a space, they visually add texture to a plain wall. We love picking up thrift store mirrors and painting a frame around the edges for an updated look.

Marissa painted her found screen a vintage orange and hung on her entryway's wall to add a bit of texture to her space. In addition, the detailed pattern of the screen helps to create an extra layer of texture.

What a simple idea? Instead of traditional framed art above her dresser, Cassandra takes a bamboo room divider and creates an interesting background for her furniture.

bepsf -- I love the floor-to-ceiling draperies idea. In addition to the effective, practical and easy way to add color and texture, as you mentioned, they're great for acoustics in most rooms.
