Names: John (5), Leo (3.5) and Adam (2)
Location: LaGrange, IL
Division: Shared Room
Room Size: 100 sq. ft.
Tip for Living Small with Kids: PURGE the kid clutter on a regular basis. You'd be surprised at how much you can get rid of without them ever noticing.
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: The boys are still too little to safely bunk. Fortunately, we were able to fit one bed in each corner of the room, which --along with the individual wall monograms and magnet boards-- gives each of them their own defined space.
Favorite Thing About This Room: I love all the color. I tend to shy away from too much color in the rest of my house, but I think the room turned out bright, cheerful, and busy...just like my boys! The boys' favorite thing is their "secret cabin hideout" under the captain bed.
Thanks for your entry Sheri and good luck!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Love it.
I can't vote! Don't know why. But I must know: do you ever sleep? I want to move my boys to a shared room, but I am afraid they would keep each other awake.
I can't vote either! But also, I would like to hear your answer to correna79's question! It will be a while, but we have one boy now, and another one on the way, and I can't wait to room them together... when did you start yours rooming together?
And it is a darling room, btw!
Thanks so much. To answer your question...no, I'm not sleeping well, but it's because of their baby sister who is due in 8 weeks, not so much the boys' nighttime habits. : )
We are in a 3 bdrm, so #1 and #2 have been sharing a room since #2 turned 2 yo. We just moved #3 in to make way for #4 in the nursery, and it was a very easy transition as he loves to be with his big brothers. There's a little bit of bedtime nonsense, but for the most part they settle down easy. Good luck to the both of you!
I can't vote either!
I love how clean and sweet the room is. It's precious...well done!
Can't vote. :(
I can't vote either. I love the color...what color is it??? I wish the pictures weren't turned all wonky so I could see it better, but I like it. :)
Hi everyone! I'm sorry about the voting snafu. I'm looking into it right now and the 48 hour voting period will be extended. Thanks for your patience!
Carrie
this room is adorable! very cute! would you mind telling me where you got the pendant? i love it!
I love the room! I didn't realize you had done more than simply moved the little one in. When do you have time to come over and decorate my house?
We have 2 bedrooms- our kids are now 3 and 5 and they have been sharing since the little one was a year old. We have sleep issues with the youngest (he never was a great sleeper) but they do sleep- they just party for about an hour after they get put to bed. We have to separate them for daytime naps and illness.
can you tell me where you got the beds? We are moving our 2 year old to a big girl bed but I am interested in small bunk beds for future room sharing...
I meant to write that I was interested in that bed with the drawers as an option other than bunking...
sorry. I should edit my thoughts before I click submit! :)
Love it!! Such a great little room!! :)
I would love to do this with my three boys (8,4,2). One peaceful space for sleeping and dressing. Play and sleep don't necessarily pair well in a room, I think. Unless, it is cleaned daily, which is not likely at my house.
BTW, I am vicariously overjoyed at a girl following 3 boys. If I have a 4th, I hope to have a girl, too.
The wonky pictures are a little difficult to look at -- but the room looks cool!
The paint is Behr - Madras Blue.
I got the pennant/flag banner at Land of Nod a good 3-4 years ago. Doesn't look like they carry it anymore, but it's just bias tape and fabric remnants that have been cut with pinking shears...it would be easy to DIY!
As for the beds, the toddler beds are IKEA and the captain/storage bed is from Darvin Furniture.
Sorry about the "wonky" pictures...I don't have a very good camera and it was the best I could do with such tight angles. : )
Adorable!
I love it!!! We have four boys sharing a room... and there is always a LOT of chatter after bedtime but they usually settle within about 5 minutes and I pop in about 10 minutes later and they are always asleep. It's great in the mornings they little guys clamber into their older brothers bed for stories and I hear nothing!!! Works for us and they wouldn't have it any other way...
We just put our 3 girls into 1 room and it is great. Bedtime is actually better because one of us lies down with the youngest (6) until she goes to sleep. (A habit we began when she shared our room for years). All the while, we can make sure the older ones (9, 10) are going off to sleep like they should be. Everyone scoffed at us, but it has been a success.
Love it!! I have a 3yo and a 2yo in one very small room and I'm slowly trying to move my 3month old in with his older brothers. I got a few good ideas from you. Thanks
Getting these three boys to bed took a lot of patience at first. For about a week, it was a 1/2 hour chore to get them all settled down. Now, the 3.5yr old and the 5yr old have no problem. Our 2yr old still getting the hang of it but he has a good example to follow. I think it helped that the two older boys shared a room for about eighteen months and got used to it before their younger brother joined them.
One really good thing about the layout of the room is it is very easy to keep clear of the type of clutter that seems to collect in kids rooms like this. Because there is an open central space, there are fewer places for piles of clothes and toys to accummulate.
Just darling! I love how each boy has his own little niche, where individual personality shows, but the room still exhibits "cohesiveness." Cute "little man" cave.
Couldn't be cuter! Any chance you're available for consults? :)
Okay, let me see if I have this straight. Though we have a 4 bedroom house, 2 boys, and more child on the way, we really need an office space. We have considered rooming the 2 boys together (2 and 5), but I worry about having room for their toys and syncing their bedtimes (they currently have bedtimes 2 hours apart).
Are their toys in this room as well, or is there a playroom?
cute, cute, cute....almost as cute as those little boys. are you making room for the little girl next?
@Houndstooth there are very, very few toys in the bedroom, but tons of books. it is definitely a quiet(er) space than the basement toyroom. i think the lack of toys helps us out when it comes to getting them to settle down...they don't think of it as their primary playspace.
What I want to know is how to manage this when you have older kids who would know if you started to pare down their things.
