Now this is a collection! 6,850 video game titles, 330 gaming consoles, 220 controllers, 185 accessories, and countless amounts of promotional posters, action figures, soundtracks, and strategy guides (I spy a few titles I designed back in the early 2000's!). It can all be yours for just a few (tens of) thousands of dollars...give or take a half a million.
The seller, videogames.museum explains why he's finally letting go a lifetime of collecting:
After a life spent collecting video games I decide to sell off my entire collection. I just have too much things and the space to store them is finished long ago... also I realized that if I want to play at least half of my games, I should live two or three entire human life...
Just to give an idea of the huge amount of items present in my collection, I spent the last two months of my life taking pictures and making lists, working about eight hours a day just in order to make an inventory and to figure out what I have. Even now after all the time spent checking things I'm not sure to have included all in the lists...
Due to the sheer amount of items is even difficult to present it, and I don't really know were to start... so I try to do my best even if I'm sure I might forget something. Instead to pick up some favourite consoles and maybe try to complete all the games related, I choosed to collect most systems possible with the most rapresentative and rare games for each console.
This collection is the story of the videogames from A to Z, from the game & watch and old pong systems to the actual generation of PS3 and XBOX360. I think that with all the stuff in this auction you can actually open a museum...
And now some numbers. I divide the collection in various categories: Games, Consoles, Controllers, Accessories, Promotional and various items.
-The games count over 6,850 pcs. with about 6,780 boxed and 70 loose, and are in various format NTSC Japan or Usa and also PAL.
-The consoles are over 330, with 307 system boxed and 24 loose, and even in this case we have all the different standards.
-The controllers are about 220 with 167 boxed and 52 loose. I included all the kind of controller, from the simple joypad to the special controller like all the Konami Bemani to the Densha De Go train controller, and the arcade joystick as well.
-The accessories are about 185, and in this category I put the ac adapters, the various av cables, the rumble packs, the memory cards, battery packs, the converters for the region locked games, and various other items like screens, printers etc.
-The promo and various items are composed by promotional items like soudtracks or gadgets relate to a specific game or console, demo disc not for sale, limited edition item like the Resident Evil Umbrella box or the Kratos Twin Blades, various action figures, strategy guides etc.etc.
The whole collection is being sold as an all or nothing affair via eBay with a starting price of $550,000. You've got about 6 days left if you want to instantly qualify yourself for a future episode of Hoarders. The complete collection is showcased in an encyclopedic ImageShack album of 1,500+ photos here if you're like me and simply content window shopping.

White Enamel Four-P...
wow, impressive collection! too bad your selling them, but hope it goes to a good home. lol
This sounds great until he down sold it in the second sentence "I realized that if I want to play at least half of my games, I should live two or three entire human life..." Yeah good point, I shouldn't waste my time. Why does he need 5 PS2's Boxed?
I hope he gets a good penny for this impressive collection. Maybe if I had a very large family who would appreciate this.
This is a hell of a collection.
I love watching these type of auctions close on Ebay, so I'm glad AT posted this.
I'll be curious to see whether he can get rid of this stuff, especially at that price. I know nothing about video games, but isn't most of this stuff obsolete?
@ mdorothy I think the term you're looking for is "classic," not "obsolete."
@ Funstraw-
Exactly.
There is a reason we actually destroy the discs of video games after a while. When they feel like they are sucking us in and become compulsive, we get that monkey off our back. At some point you've got to live life.
Games > life.
Keep your absolute favorites, ditch the rest. NEVER get rid of a console.
So true. I love my SNES.
Someone call the prop masters of The Big Bang Theory!
I can't tell if it's just the fact that English isn't his native language, but did he say that he's spent eight hours a day for the last two months working on this?! I'd love to know what job he has!
The different PS2's are likely different SKUs that you would want to have a "complete" collection of that console. Plus, the PS2 had region coding so if you wanted to play, say, a Japanese game, you can't just use the same console that you brought in the United States.
Incredible collection.
Thanks for the clarification.
This is sad. What's even worse is that someone would drop upwards of a half a million on this crap.
Books? Okay. Movies? Fine. Interior design mags? Sure!
Video games? Haha. Instant loser.
Here. Let me give you a gentle shove off your horse. It seems a bit too high for you.

Hey RocketScientist!
I'm curious, did you get a chance to watch this??
I know some gamers who were actually thinking of putting together a bid, but now it's closed....
:-)
My boyfriend is into video games and if he ever wanted to start a collection all I would say is "ENNNN OHHH!" there is nothing worse than shelves upon shelves of stuff. If you have a collection, thats fine, just keep it put away somewhere.
