Name: Pinky
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Type: I rent a petite one-bedroom brick row house with a finished attic. It was Victorian era steelworker housing; among the few remaining original details are two marble-finish fireplaces.
Why I use color:
Life is too short for beige.

2 Good color tips:
- Try to avoid hip color combos, unless you want to redecorate when
they go stale in 10 months.
- When painting deep colors, spring for decent paint.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

Sprout Side Table
ooh, what color/brand is that turquoise?
Very pretty bedroom. Is that a stencil or a wall decal sticky thing?
I love. Not very design, but the more charming.
love the bedroom, do tell about the flower design!
Love the blue. And I think I like the orange as a color, but maybe not exactly in that room.
yay pittsburgh! love the blue and the stencil. great lamps too.
I voted insta because I love the blue and orange. The floor in the study is somewhat distracting...
Pitt! I totally get the black and gold in the living room... ;) You're in Steeler country!
Yes, more info on the flowers on the bedroom wall please!!
the flowers in the bedroom are a wall decal from ikea

I looooove the yellow walls...and that huge green poster!
(For those who are wondering about the flowers on the bedroom wall, I'm pretty sure those are these decals from IKEA.)
Love the bedroom. What a beautiful color!
lovely, I spot a kitty too!
The blue is Sherwin-Williams Maxi Teal. When I moved in the room was purple - a wrong, bad purple - with goldish-beige carpet. Ugh.
That's one challenge being a renter -- flooring. Can't rip up the carpet, can't do much about the red attic floors.
And yes, I used Ikea wall decals -- I love blik, but until I'm done with grad school they're out of reach.
Actually I think the worn floor in the study is charming!
My suggestion would be to group your smaller pieces of art -- and perhaps when you do this, re-frame or re-mat some of them to give the groups more cohesion.
what a great place! I also dig your vintage posters!
Your bedroom is so pretty, and your color advice is very smart.
Those colours are crazy cool!!
Beautiful movie poster. Perils of Thunder Mountain? I'd love to see a better pic.
the office doesn't work. scale is off, styling is off and what's with all the wires? Without this pic, I would have rated it much better.
The wall colors are nice. I didn't get a sense of everything else working with them. It's a start.
What a lovely bedroom!
Lovely! The colors are beautiful. I agree about the office area, it just isn't finished, but it has a lot of potential and the color there is lovely as well. Maybe start with the wall color and that white desk and work from there. I see you've gone for the equivalent of the "little black dress" in your choice of Occasional Cat--he would look elegant anywhere in your place, but especially in that lovely gold chair in the room with the big green poster.
Great use of colors, I would call this Scruffy Mod. :)
cool bedroom...blue and chocolate is delicious!
Nah! I love the floor in the study. That imperfection makes it more charming.
Beautiful use of color - especially that teal! I don't think the study looks very cohesive in terms of the furnishing - the pieces feel too small and a bit like "left-overs" from the rest of your home. Maybe add some pieces with more presence or repaint the desk/bookshelf in an intense hue?
I would kind of love to see the desk and bookshelf in the study painted a nice deep color. That said, I love what you have done wall color-wise and I agree about grouping the art differently.
The wall colors are pretty bold... but the furniture/furnishings... meh. I understand that ideally you want furniture that matches any color scheme, but to win a competition like this, I think you really have to have the courage to COMMIT to a color scheme and totally run with it 100%.
Also... I am not feeling the small picture frame arrangement at all. If you are going with a hodge-podge of sizes, they should be arranged in clusters. I think you can only pull off rows of frames only if they are all identical.
charm is worth more that purchased design anyday.
thanks!
gorgeous.
Pittsburgh, represent!
I like the use of blue in the bedroom. It feels fresh and on trend, yet not so trendy as to be completely tiresome. And that green in your office is the kind of green I'm looking to paint my studio.
Ignore the comments on your decor... the contest is supposed to be about the use of colors, not your furniture. And it's nice to see places that look like they're actually lived in and decorated by real people, not professional show pieces.
