Why I use color: For us living is such a nontraditional, urban home has created a craving for comfort and nature. Playing with color to calm our cravings was a natural development. The space we live in has 13 to 18 foot ceilings and alot of light. The natural light we receive through the seven 8 feet by 11 foot windows is so inspiring and changes depending on the time of day and year. We used color to create a serene, relaxing home that plays with the light. We also used it to define areas of the home.

The sleeping areas were very important when it came to choosing color. We wanted to craft a space that takes advantage of the features the loft offers us while giving us a tranquil environment. For our child's room we thought green would be soothing and the addition of bright oranges, pinks and reds would be playful at the same time.

2 good color tips:

1. Follow your emotions - color in your home is going to have a tremendous effect on your life.

2. Stick with colors that are found in nature.

2 good color resources:

1. That remarkable, pulled together outfit you saw someone wearing yesterday on the train. If a color palette looks good as an outfit, it will likely look good as a color scheme for a room.

2. A book I have had for years - The Complete Color Directory by Alice Westgate.
