Into Bedroom Month but don't have a bedroom? Studio apartment dwellers often look to the daybed as a dual-purpose furnishing for the small home. These are a few we love but certainly can't afford. But hey, isn't that often the source of great inspiration?...
Up top: The R.M. Schindler Sofa, designed by architect Rudolph Schindler, for his own Los Angeles residence sells for around $12,000.
Donald Judd's daybed design.

Two more affordable options, one modern, one traditional:

The Parsons Daybed at Room and Board.

The Priscilla Daybed at Pottery Barn

That Donald Judd piece looks like a DIY dogbed. But love the Cleopatra one. Gorgeous.
The Schindler sofa is gorgeous - Although I'm generally against knockoffs, I'd be willing to bet that you could get a good carpenter to make a similar frame out of Cherry and Veneered plywood and have a custom tufted mattress made w/ a cotton velvet cover to get this style for $11,000-12,000 less...
The Schindler and the Lublin are both available to the trade here in New York City via DESIGNLUSH.
But if anyone NOT working with a designer wants to buy either (especially the Schindler), I'm SURE they will sell it to you directly!!
Tell Stephen Patrick sent you. :)
Is it to early to reserve my space in the bunker with the Schindler daybed for 2012?
"Priscilla Daybed No Longer Available"
This is my sad face. D':
I don't quite understand the Donald Judd piece. A pine box for how much? Come on.
I do like the Lublin, though.
A sofa costs anywhere from 1000-10,000 and a bed can cost anywhere from 1000 - 10,000. So, combine both and splurge.
I love the Judd one. Some people just don't understand art.
I sort of understand art.
And Donald Judd should stick to it.
"understand" the donald judd? i just plain don't like it. the point of a day bed is multi function. that piece is isolating and dreary. imo
The Judd piece doesn't look very comfortable.
I'm so sorry that my $50,000 (plus interest) art degree is so meaningless. I guess I should go back to school to learn the true meaning in an unadorned pine mattress holder.
To each his own.
Sorry for the plug but we sell some really nice daybeds http://www.click4beds.co.uk/shop/beds/white_beds/products/joseph_polo_white_day_bed.html and http://www.click4beds.co.uk/shop/beds/guest_beds/products/obc_edwardian_day_bed_metal_bed_frame.html which both look great
