We took a little trip to Room & Board yesterday and were pleased to find a slew of new items we hadn't seen before. A few of our favorites, after the jump...
Walking up to the store we spotted this set of Sanna chairs from a window - well, hello there. The stocked fabric we weren't crazy about, but the lines of the legs were really stunning. It felt like a piece one would keep for a long time.
The Astoria was another chair that caught our eye, mainly because of the subdued-yet-trippy (if that's possible) fabric. It had a small footprint, so we could see it in an apartment that's short on space, or maybe in the corner of a bedroom.
Love the curve of this sectional, and the tufts, too. Anything that fosters lounging while maintaining a crisp appearance (that excludes you, La-Z-Boy) is okay by us.
Here's a piece from the Grove collection we hadn't seen yet. What we like about it is the obvious attention to detail in the piece, like the bevelled edge at the top. Maybe for an entryway or as a media stand?

The Astoria chair has been around for at least a year but you're right, it's a nice chair and perfect for a bedroom corner, which is where I have mine. It's super comfortable for a smallish chair and the back has just the right pitch for lounging. My dog likes it too—he's taken to sleeping there all day while I'm at work.

Wow, $700 each for those little wooden Sanna lounge chairs with bland beige cushions! I got a pair of them for $35 and just made my own cushions. That style of chair is in practically ever AT apartment lately. Keep your eyes open--you can get them used for under $100 in just about any junk shop, and pick up some cushions in Pier 1 or some place like that.
I am always stunned at the mark up on retail furniture. I would never pay retail, well except the one time on my Ikea shelves for my home office.
Is anyone else seeing their grandmother's house from 25 years ago in these pics?

So where do you shop for furniture? Or did you mean you wait for sales?
Uggh... this is what bugs me about Room and Board: Look at the beautiful lines of the Grove hall table. Look at the delicate legs and the beveled edge....all beautiful, right? Now look at the horribly mismatched grain on the front of the drawers. It may seem like a small detail - but if I'm paying $1500 for it (starting to creep into DWR territory here) I expect exactly THOSE kinds of little details to be addressed!
At the very least, make sure the grain is all going in the same direction - not 3 horizontal patterns, and then the random swirly pattern.
Grainmatching would take this piece from $1500 to $3000, easily...
And that "swirly" panel is indeed going the same direction.

Grain-matching is for high-end pieces - and R&B, while pretty well made, isn't exactly high-end...
We've got the Wells sofa. Gorgeous and well-made.
