Yes there are the boxes. And the lifting and hauling of things. There are the extra expenses, the hassle and the dread of anticipation knowing a move's coming. But moving doesn't have to be the worst thing ever. Look on the bright side with these four reasons that are always my favorite thing about moving. If you've just recently made a move, have a move on the horizon or know someone about to take the plunge, these four moving-doesn't-always-suck truths might help get the mover through all the lifting, cleaning and hauling!
1. You get the opportunity to purge stuff in your life you no longer need
(Which works for physical stuff and for not-so-great boyfriends and girlfriends, too.) This is my favorite thing about moving. Even when I'm pretty good about keeping clutter around the house at bay, nothing feels better than that feeling you get as you shuck unneeded things out of your house because you're too lazy to move them. You realize quick just how little you really need to live and if you're lucky, this new approach to minimal living lasts a little while in your new place.
2. You get a chance to re-evaluate your style and get closer to your authentic look
Style is ever-evolving, and sometimes shaking up your location is the easiest way to shake off the looks and tastes that no longer fit your personality. It's an opportunity to be bold, take new design chances, try something you never could in the last place or even just go out and find new/vintage items to play around with. 3. You get the opportunity to remember how rad you are and how you can totally handle anything that comes your way
Even the smoothest moves are rife with unforeseen stresses, mistakes, hassles and bummers. But you always get through. You always figure out how to fix something (or find out who to call). Even the biggest disasters in the moment can turn into a great story to tell later on. Remember this one in particular when you discover something unpleasant in your new place or open a box of broken dishes.
4. You get a shift in perspective that allows you to discover new things and meet new people
Restlessness comes from being in the same place for too long. But moving is the antidote to being bored with your surroundings because suddenly, your surroundings are completely new! Even if you're familiar with the city or neighborhood you're moving to, it's wildly different when you get to call it home. Seize the opportunity to soak up this newness and explore with your new perspective. We've got ideas on how to maximize exploring, too.
What other reasons can you think of that make moving more awesome than suck-y? Or am I totally way off and moving actually is the worst thing ever? Sound off below:
