Even if you're not a shipping container enthusiast, it's hard not to like the price tag on this beautiful home in Costa Rica. By using recycled shipping containers and doing some of the work themselves, the owners were able to keep the final cost of the home down around $40,000.

The project, named Containers of Hope, was designed by Benjamin Garcia Saxe and makes use of two 40' shipping containers and plenty of windows. The home was built for a couple in San Jose, Costa Rica as their permanent residence.
The two containers are built on a low profile pier foundation. Scraps of metal, left over from cutting holes for the windows, were used as roofing. New flooring was installed on the ground, and the walls have been well insulated.

That's a really inspired design. Love the open airy layout.
I've been dreaming of building a shipping container home. The plans in my head have become quite elaborate.
I love this - simple, sleek and the design totally fits the atmosphere of Costa Rica.
Man I would love to build something like that.

A gorgeous modern home though I have a few places that I'd rather have my container dropped than San Jose, Costa Rica (at least they have healthcare!) I'm sure the owners will have years of enjoyment from this home. The simple design is truly inspiring. I would love to see more of the interior!
Ok God willing i will make this happen for me when I move to Costa Rica in two years.. that is my goal.. awesome work and affordable for me..D)
