Name: Amanda and Josh Location: Sterling, Virginia Type: Two bedroom condo, owned. Why I use color: Color is fun and exciting. "Atomic Orange" is what started it all. I came across the color "Atomic Orange" in the paint section and knew I had to have it on my walls. The color is bold, but warm and welcoming at the same time and because we decided to make this an accent wall it doesn’t overpower the room... When it comes to decorating, I enjoy pairing cool thrift store finds with newer pieces and modern reproductions. Since this is the room where we mostly hang out and entertain I wanted it to be comfortable and feel like a home -- and it does both for us. 2 Good color tips: 1. If you feel it, do it! Too many people are afraid of color, so I am always pleased when I see people take risks in decorating their homes. 2. When you are painting with bold colors make sure to use a tinted primer and don’t skimp on supplies. Using a paintbrush or roller you bought at the dollar store will show – you will end up with loose bristles or roller fuzz in your paint. It might cost a little more, but will save you time and headaches later. 2 good color resources: 1. Magazines! Not just home décor magazines, but since my home is mostly retro themed I got several of my ideas from vintage ads from old magazines. My bedroom colors are based off of an old motel ad I found. 2. Take a look at fabrics, furniture, and accessories. My orange wall is from an Eames print. I also take color cues from the artwork in my home.
