Why I use color:
I like warmness. I like walking into a room and feeling instantly comfortable. When I come home I feel like my home is wrapping me in a cozy feeling. I am not super bold with color, in fact I have a lot of BROWN.

2 good color tips:
1. Don't be afraid of brown....it goes with everything!
2. I think if you paint your surroundings in a warm neutral palate, you can change up your accessories when you feel like a change. Painting is such a huge ordeal, may as well get it right the first time!
2 good color resources:
1. I like to get color ideas from magazine, mostly design magazines.
2. I like the look of Ralph Lauren paints. They go on the wall evenly and are true to their color swatches.

I'm confused. There are 20 'no' votes and not a single comment. Youse guyz (as we say in New York) aren't playing fair. You don't like it, tell why!
Ok-- I'll comment. You did not explore the use of color. However, you have a nice place. Take a look at other entries that scored higher. Kind regards,
It's a nice place and everything 'goes', but it's just not a creative and fresh use of color. I'd love housesitting there, but I might not take design cues from it.
I whole-heartedly agree that brown is a great color to use in the home and that its then easy to add accents of other colors to suit the season/mood. Maybe its my monitor, but I was hoping to see the brown really pop. I'll bet that it does in person (especially in the dining room against that white).
I think the dark red against the white looks sharp. I just think that more color might be called for in this contest.
zzzzzzzzzzz
The dining room looks like it has some interplay of reds and browns, though something is making me think the photo isn't representing the colors quite accurately.
If the living room scheme is keyed to the subtle colors in the framed maps, it is not coming through in the photos. If your maps are the same color as mine, I think your photos may be showing the room grayer than it is. (Says she who can't get lamp-lit photos to stop coming out insanely yellow.)
What an inviting home. There's some subtle coloplay going on here, but in the end, it just doesn't have enough oomph or color interest for what I'm looking for in this contest.
More color please! Everything goes with brown so the universe of colors to choose from is huge. Mix up some aubergine and green with that stunning red and you'll have a winner.
I like the dining room. The crisp white of the built-in and wall mouldings against the rich browns are nice, I bet it looks great in person. The pictures don't seem to be the best. The lighting in the dining room is supposed to be amber, which would be very warm and nice, but the white flash from the camera totally kills it. That being said, I don't know what to do with that shot of the living room. Wish it were a different angle. Does anyone know where to find a similar silver hutch like the one shown in this dining room?
I like the crisp white with the brown too, but the rest just seems very 'beige'. I bet there are more colors in person - the dishes in the kitchen hutch, the runner on the table, the maps, but it just gets washed out in these photos. You could have shown the couch & cushions instead of the tv stand.
check out the other brown entries, like entry #13 in AT-NY.
next time, try using a tripod or setting your camera down on a steady surface for non-flash photog so you don't get so much glare from the glass.
I voted no. Based on the two photos I didn't think this one was a top entry in the color competition. I loved the dining area and the way the rich brown wall color was set off by the white cabinets. But the second photo showed a room without much use of color. I didn't think that the wall color of the first photo was enough to overcome the lack of color in the second room for competition purposes.
You'll never win this contest. Your house is far too tastefully designed. Beautiful.
