Just because you don't have access to a traditional stove or a stocked pantry on a camping trip is no reason to to skip dessert! Here are five ideas for a sweet treat that will have your kids singing your praises around the campfire.
1. Orange Chocolate Cake
Slice the top of the number off your oranges and scoop out the flesh. Fill each orange with prepared cake mix being careful to leave enough room for rising. We filled ours just over half way and that seemed to do the trick. Wrap in foil and tuck in hot coals for around 20 minutes, turning occasionally. Let cool and serve with a spoon.
2. Cinnamon-Honey Fruit Salad
What do you do with all that scooped out orange flesh? We added it to some chopped pineapple and generously drizzled cinnamon-laden honey on top.
. Chocolate-Raspberry Burrito
While eating these around the campfire last week, it was unanimously agreed that chocolate and raspberry were meant to be together. Simply sprinkle dark chocolate chips over raspberry jam in a tortilla wrapped in foil and toast on warm rocks near coals.
4. Pass-Around-Icing for Smores
Combine the following in a sealed ziplock:
• 1/2 cup cocoa
• 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1/2 cup cream cheese
Pass around the campfire, taking turns mixing and squeezing the ingredients for 30 minutes. Once combined, snip a hole in the corner of the bag and squeeze onto your graham cracker and marshmallow.
5. Campfire Banana Split
Wrap a split banana, chocolate chips and marshmallows in some aluminum foil and toast by some coals until everything is warm and gooey. A nice alternative to the smore.
