Just because you don't have access to a traditional stove or a stocked pantry on a camping trip is no reason to to skip dessert! Here are five ideas for a sweet treat that will have your kids singing your praises around the campfire.
1. Orange Chocolate Cake
Slice the top of the number off your oranges and scoop out the flesh. Fill each orange with prepared cake mix being careful to leave enough room for rising. We filled ours just over half way and that seemed to do the trick. Wrap in foil and tuck in hot coals for around 20 minutes, turning occasionally. Let cool and serve with a spoon.
2. Cinnamon-Honey Fruit Salad
What do you do with all that scooped out orange flesh? We added it to some chopped pineapple and generously drizzled cinnamon-laden honey on top.
3. Chocolate-Raspberry Burrito
While eating these around the campfire last week, it was unanimously agreed that chocolate and raspberry were meant to be together. Simply sprinkle dark chocolate chips over raspberry jam in a tortilla wrapped in foil and toast on warm rocks near coals.
4. Pass-Around-Icing for Smores
Combine the following in a sealed ziplock:
• 1/2 cup cocoa
• 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1/2 cup cream cheese
Pass around the campfire, taking turns mixing and squeezing the ingredients for 30 minutes. Once combined, snip a hole in the corner of the bag and squeeze onto your graham cracker and marshmallow.
5. Campfire Banana Split
Wrap a split banana, chocolate chips and marshmallows in some aluminum foil and toast by some coals until everything is warm and gooey. A nice alternative to the smore.

I think I would prefer regular campfire smores to the icing...after all smores are one of the best things about camping! Everything else sounds so good though...I would love to try out the orange cakes. So inventive!

perfect for the summer time.
Pudgie pies are a campfire dessert staple! My son loves the cherry pie and I'm fond of the Nutella pie. Take two slices of bread, fill with whatever your heart desires, close the pie iron and toast over an open fire to sweet perfection!
The best part is my family made these pies when I was a child, and now I am continuing the tradition with my own children.

One of my girls' favourites was chocolate cupcakes (prebaked at home) split in half, insert chocolate mint wafer candy, wrap in aluminum foil and put in campfire coals until candy has melted. Gooey and yummy!
switch out the chocolate in a s'more with a reece's peanut butter cup. trust me.
"That's S'amore"
Crusty french or Cuban bread, sliced and drizzled with olive oil and sea salt. Lightly toast bread over coals. Spread with nutella, add toasted gooey marshmellow.
These will change your life.
get me to a campfire, STAT!!! love all the ideas in the comments too- yum!
Slice a banana length wise stuff it with marshmallows and peanut butter chips, wrap it on foil and throw it over some coals. Its great with ice cream.
Another good one a apple with the core removed cover with cinnamon, sugar and butter and stuffed with caramels. Wrap it in foils and let it bake over coals
I second the pudgie pies, especially if you're serving pizza pudgie pies for dinner. We've also got a campfire popcorn popper thats been in the family for ages. Another favorite is peach cobbler in the dutch oven.
I tried the chocolate cake filled oranges this weekend on the grill and while the cake cooked fine, it had a a distinct bitter taste from the rind. Have any of you experienced this? Any ideas on how to reduce the effect of this bitterness?
I did the orange cakes last year, but with a white cake mix. I also substituted orange juice for water in the mix. They were good, but it's hard to cook them just right. They're easily under/over-cooked.
