A bottle of wine is a good go–to gift for the holidays, but wrapping it can be a challenge. I usually tie twine or pretty ribbon around the bag it came in, but in hopes of upping my wrapping game this year I sought out some clever tutorials.
1. Wine Wrap, DIY from Chewing The Cud: The Think Collective and Chewing The Cud both sell beautiful Furoshiki cloths.
2. Confetti Bomb, DIY from Etsy: fun for holiday wine, champagne or sparkling cider, and if you have been searching for compostable cling wrap, BioBag now makes one.
3. Double Wine Wrap, DIY from Brooklyn Bride: perfect if you're bringing a bottle of white and a bottle of red.
4. Champagne Bottle Wrap, DIY from Martha Stewart: Martha uses tissue paper, but kraft paper would work well too. To decorate, try making a potato stamp.
5. Sock Wrap, DIY from Formal Fringe: a gift within a gift.

Nice ideas
The plastic bag holder I use use to be a cloth wine bottle gift bag.
woo, i like the sock idea~~
DIY certainly personalizes the gift, but if you're crafty-challenged, hit the post holiday sales for wine bags. They are always deeply discounted and unless you are a committed (or need to be committed) fashionista, nobody knows it is last year's winebag style.
Why not just wrap the label and forget all that awkward neck-twisting stuff? It's not as though anyone is going to be fooled into thinking it's something other than a bottle.
You could even give it a little hat.
Or, wrap it up vintage style:
Vintage Wine Hankie Wine Bag
Recently, we had people over for dinner and two friends came with plastic grocery sacks full of loose beers they had randomly pulled out of the fridge on their way over. We teased the first one (nicely, they're good friends), then lost our heads laughing when the next guy showed up with exactly the same thing.
So I recommend the grocery store bag. Think of it as industrial chic. I'm sure you can origami the handles somehow.
My favorite way to wrap a wine bottle is with a single cloth napkin and napkin ring, which can usually be found on sale. Open the napkin and place the bottle at the intersection of the folds. Bring the ends up around the neck of the bottle, drop the napkin ring over it and fluff the ends. Only slightly more complicated than the plastic grocery bag method!
while i like the socks, it's a little bit of an odd combo...
