A Potted Plant: One of my favorite ideas, which I plan on using for a number of events. Succulents, moss or even pots of herbs make for not only a great place card, but also a favor for your guests.
Natural or Found Items: Place cards don't get much easier or cheaper than this — simply use any relevant object you have laying around the house such as a fork, or get creative with out door elements such as colorful leaves, tree spurs or twigs. Use a sharpie, ribbon or string to label your guests names on the place cards.
Corks: If you're having any parties this season you'll likely be drink more than enough wine and compiling plenty of corks. For your dinner party just cut in a slot longways in the cork, and slice of the bottom for a flat and stable card holder.
Produce: Apples and small gourds make perfect seasonal place cards for this time of year, though any small size produce could be used. Use a marker to write directly on the product or tie a tag around the stem.
Preserves: Share your summer bounty of homemade preserves with your guests — a small jar of preserves makes for a colorful and tasty place card and favor.
