I like for all my media business to be well-concealed, so I like the ones with doors that hide everything. But if the remote control(s) won't work through the doors, isn't that a p.i.t.a/eyesore to have to leave them open while watching TV or a DVD? That's why I like my IKEA Besta with the frosted glass doors. Out of sight. Literally.
debzeppelin - you just need a repeater! that way the doors can be closed.
The Viva Terra's Vintage Fir Storage Console is beautiful. However, one small complaint. I was hoping that you would showcase small scale media cabinets in more of a price range. The cheapest cabinet is $549, well above what I could or want to pay for a small scale media cabinet. An extra item or two in the $0-$200 range would have been nice.
I have the tv cabinet with frosted doors from IKEA also for the exact same reason: with the glass shelves and frosted door the remotes to my tivo, dvd, cable, wii all work with no problem and without opening a cabinet door. I HATE having to leave a door on the console open to operate the tv.
These prices are killer - I have been looking for a small media cabinet (less than 48" wide) that didn't cost half what my tv cost. I ended up with a great steal from Crate & Barrel outlet - $67 for a nice wooden Kendel unit with adjustable shelves that should last for years.
