We've been obsessed with our desk recently (or rather placement of where it goes in our bedroom). We would like to rearrange our room to better suit our needs but can't seem to figure it out just yet. Because we can't figure out our bedroom/desk combo we started fantasizing where else our "office" might live. Here are five places we thought of after the jump.
- Our desk is currently in the corner of our bedroom but we've always loved the look of a desk at the foot of a bed. A glass table top on legs would give a sense of grandeur to a bedroom that we really like.
- You could also place a desk behind the couch of a living room. We've always liked the idea of being in the mix of it all and the living room is perfect for that vibe.
- A desk placed in your kitchen (or utilizing the kitchen table) is another place to get your work done. Plus, one of the first places we head to when we get home is the kitchen. Your first stop could be dropping off your mail to your inbox and setting down all of your important papers at your desk station.

- You might also want to consider a lap desk or tray stocked with a few essential items you'll need while you're working. A wireless printer would take care of all your printing needs so you are free to roam.

I do not work from home, and when I do work at home, its very light stuff, so this suggestion is for those like me who do not need accurate monitor calibration and wouldn't be hours on the computer but....
What I do, is I combined my TV as a media station and work station. I have a decent 32" LCD HD TV with all the right hookups. I custom built a mini (but powerful!) computer that is hooked up to it. Wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, webcam, wireless headset (for talking and gaming). All the accessories can be hidden away in the coffee table, side tables, etc.
It all looks cool, and I don't need to pay for cable (just highspeed internet!) because I watch all the shows I need on hulu, full screen and it looks as good as and sometimes better than standard definition TV! And I can check email and play games from the same screen. Switch over to a TV network when I have to for the news (digital reciever...better than rabbit ears! high def!). It is so simple and works perfectly since I live in a studio apartment!
Also, impresses the friends and gadget geeks. :)
Oh I should mention, that the quality of the VGA was a LOT better than I though. I expected dark or dim from everything I saw from other people who used a "TV" as a monitor. Mine was very clear and bright and no difference than a regular LCD computer monitor as far as quality goes. So if I were to do some light photoshopping here any there...I see no reason not to. As far as working from home is concerned, I could probably make the switch if it wasn't for the fact that my job as art director for a magazine is HEAVY on graphics and accurate color, etc.
My home office is a converted apartment style closet. Doors are gone, shelves in place, and my nice iMac dominating the scene. I sit in the hallway. It isn't the oval office, but I like it well enough.
I'm surprised that you didn't include placing a desk in a wide hallway or entry area - It would be a natural for a landing strip/work area...
...but work areas shouldn't be in bedrooms ever - Who can sleep with the clutter and electronics of a workspace?
We have a dining room/office. The big table gives you plenty of room to spread out. We have a bookcase next to it that has bins, baskets and drawers where the laptops, cords and papers can be put away after office hours.
I'm really having a hard time deciding where to move my desk too if I don't keep it in the living room. I do like to watch tv when I'm working though.
i don't like any electronics in the bedroom; too messy and distracting.and no junk. or sporting equipment. or work stuff.
just a bed, soft, warm textured fabrics, 2 nightstands, and a dresser. bedrooms are for rest.
but i love all the other ideas for desk placement
Putting a desk at the foot of the bed just sounds weird. Not quirky weird, but "what the heck is wrong with you?" weird.
