Growing up in the South, I've always had a pool in the backyard. It was a rather large pool, with a screen enclosure to keep all of the bugs and leaves out, and frankly, I took it for granted. Now, I'm living in a rowhome in Philadelphia and during these hot summer days, I click my heels and repeat "there's no place like home".
Now, the only time I get to cannonball into a pool is on vacation. Whether I'm visiting my parents or at a hotel, you better believe I'm spending every last second soaking up every last drop of the pool. There's nothing like the feeling of jumping into a cool pool.
Here's 5 pools we wish we could cannonball into right now:

I think that pool house could be my dream house...it's the perfect amount of space for me lately. Maybe a smidge less patio and a bit more greenery, but I could live there forever. Actually, it's been around 100 the past few days, and I think I could just live in that pool.
No 5 is freaking amazing! I would love a pool. It would also give me an excuse to hire a pool boy to take care of it.
I love the last 4...
...but you do a cannonball into a stock tank or that lap pool (#5) and you're gonna hit bottom and break your tailbone.
Again with the DIY cryptosporidium factory.
Maybe over on The Kitchn we'll learn how to prepare chicken tartare? Perhaps Ohdeedoh will run an article about using your dish sponge instead of disposable wipes to clean your baby's butt?
I need lots of money...
@mxj: we'll assume you're talking about #1... the addition of chemicals, filters, etc. was well-discussed in the first post. let's not throw the baby out with the pool water. the idea could be easily adapted and kept perfectly clean by any number of methods. spray the inside with some truck-bed liner and it'd be rust-proof, too.
I also grew up with an inground pool in the backyard and took it for granted, somewhat, although I do have many fond memories of the pool. My parents no longer live in that house, unfortunately. I would love to have a pool again someday.
Hey! I had one of those stock tank "pools" when I was kid (um, in a Midwest suburb of Chicago). For the record, I have no idea how my butt was wiped when I was a baby, and we kept/butchered our own chickens, but only made chicken tartar once.
The flippers that I deleveloped only improved my swimming skills, mx!
We had a stock tank swimming pool at my pop-pop's house. It was awesome. Kids don't really understand how awesome pools can be yet, so our humble tank was purrrfect for the texas heat. He even let us eat our popcicles in it :)
My dad has a feeding trough that was basically a bathtub-sized version of number 1, and he uses it for a "outdoor soaking-tub" infrequently. It was quite affordable when we bought it for him about 10 years ago for father's day (on request of course, we thought it was crazy). It has a drain in the bottom for emptying and refilling with fresh water. The best use for it though is bathing the dogs outside in the summer. The sides are too big for them to jump out!
I LOVE the idea of using a stock tank! Why didn't we think of this before? It's brilliant. I've never been one to want a hot tub. I'd much rather have a tub just big and deep enough to sit in and cool off on a hot day.
Brilliant. And so much cooler looking than those blue quick set pools.
