5 Possible Patio Paving Patterns

The snow has finally thawed in our neck of the woods and we're getting down to business on paving the patio. When we moved into our house, there was a low deck built onto the back that was rotting. On removing it, we found a brick patio beneath laid in a basketweave pattern, but it was in pretty bad shape. So, we've been pulling up brick by brick in anticipation of laying new pavers. Paving patterns permeate my dreams these days.

I'm convinced that a good pattern can make even the cheapest, most common concrete pavers look like something special. We're thinking of 16"x16" or 24"x24" pavers, possibly interspersed with smaller, 2:1-proportioned pavers.

Here are the patterns I've collected. While some of these examples are in stone, the same patterns could be achieved in concrete. Hopefully these pics will provide inspiration to you, as they have for me, for a patio or path:

  2. Small grid with space between, by Elemental Design
