Yesterday's post about alternatives to booking a traditional hotel led me to explore some of the more creative offerings available. There were many options to choose from, but I wanted to share five of the most unique lodging options—from Europe's first official "Earth House" to an igloo in Greenland and a California treehouse, finding an unforgettable place to spend your holiday is well-covered.

1. Elqui Domos Astronomic Hotel, Chile : Starting at $130 per night, these lovely domes sleep four. Additional services include astronomic tours and nighttime horseback riding.

2. Mushroom Dome Cabin, California: From $90 per night, this cabin in the woods is number one listing on Airnb. Read the reviews to see why.

3. Uninhabited Tipi Island, Netherlands: From $71 per night, on a small island called 'De Kluut' near Harderwijk, this small camp ground has tipis and yurts, allowing you to enjoy the simplicity of nature without having to lug around camping gear.

4. Earthship Normandy, France: From $182 per night, this is the first official Earthship Home in Europe. Completely off the grid and with the beginnings of a permaculture garden, the property is suitable for couples or families.

5. Igloo, Greenland: Starting from $350 per night, they are available from May to October and provide a front row view of the Ice Fjord
