As a group of people that spend a lot of time staring at their computer screen you might think that when it came to reading we would shun the pixels in favor of something more old school. However, this is not the case as evidenced by many of our Tech Top 10s. Why do we love our eReaders? Well let us count some of the ways, 5 ways to be exact.
One of the joys of reading is discovering new words and places. With the handy built in dictionaries, the answer to, "where is that place again?" or "what does that word mean exactly?" is just one quick click away.
2. Lots & Lots of Room
We love never having to choose which books to bring along on a plane ride. Having our entire digital reading library at our fingertips is wonderful, especially for readers like us, who are generally reading more than one book a week. To keep things fun, I like to change up my reading habits frequently, biographies and sci fi reside side by side on my digital shelves.
3. Footnotes Made Easy
Following a footnote is painless on an eReader. We love how quick it is to jump to a footnote and return to the chapter that we were reading. This is especially lovely when reading with one hand on the subway. Goodbye to the footnote follow juggling act.
4. Bookmarks, Notes, & Highlights
These three features, bookmarks, notes, and highlights, make studying textbooks on eReaders an easier task. We love how easy it is to search our notes and mark up our digital books.
5. Search the Book or Web
This happens to us often, we are reading a book and then wonder if that character was the same one from several chapters back. With the built in search, it is easy to find every mention of a word in the text. We love how the excerpt shows up in search making it easy to find which mention we were looking for. This search also can push to the web for searching both Google and Wikipedia.
One last thing we love about some eReaders:
Syncing Across Devices
We love how easy it is to pick up where we left on whether it is on our Kindle, iPad, or iPhone. eReader apps and devices that sync seamlessly are another thing that we love about this medium. Forgot the iPad but want to read that iBook but don't have it on the iPhone? Download it onto the iPhone and iBooks will drop you right where you left off on your iPad. Simply brilliant.
