For me, part of the holiday spirit is creating decorations and then putting them to use. There's nothing quite like decorating with things you and your family have created yourselves.
Each of these simple and beautiful DIY holiday decorations is from a beginners stand point. These projects will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and most even promote reusing a product you've previously used.
Don't you find holiday decorating much more satisfying when you know you've created each item? I do!

I make the "modern paper ornaments" with my 5th graders every year to decorate the classroom for our New Year's party. The kids get really into them and the room looks awesome!
Re the last one: Can you use spray paint directly onto an incandescent? Isn't that fiery death waiting to happen?
The originals, which are beautiful and pricey, seem to be made of laser-cut metal, which is not exactly easy to DIY.
I'm totally doing the modern ornaments....perfect excuse to stock up on grommets
How do you paint a light bulb and use it without the paint melting off or worse catching fire?
I think they make LEDs shaped like bulbs. Those don't get hot at all.
All of these look so nice. I am totally going to glue some ornaments to magnets.
I paint lightbulbs all the time and have done for years as I work in a craft stall. Simply use glass paint, the temp of the bulb bakes the paint onto the bulb in the same way as popping glasses into the oven bakes the paint onto their surface. Just remember to 'bake' the bulb before giving it to someone as it can give off a funky smelling smoke for the first half hour.
Magnet ornaments.. Brilliant!
You can get spray paint for radiators - that tolerates heat for sure and should work just fine.
I love hanging tiny snowflakes, ornaments, etc. from the ceiling with small pins - it gives a fairyland feel to the living, and as a bonus, drives the cats nuts. :-)
