5 Things We Love In The Sundance Catalog

Flipping through the latest Sundance Catalog (which we're more and more pleasantly surprised by) we spotted these organic cotton towels. We thought they were the right blend of fluffy, cozy and comforting and loved the unusual blanket stitching down the sides. Jump below for 4 other items that caught our eye for being classic and comforting.

Oasis Organic Cotton Towels ($28)

Almost Vintage Miniature Radio (On Sale $7.99) is modeled after the Bakelite versions from the 40's, but this one is powered by battery.

The Four Winds Throw ($98) is as adult a blankie as you're going to get.

The Genesis Pendant Light (2 for $100) harkens back to the vintage industrial era.

The Pavillion Throw (on sale $39.99) caught our eye a while ago and is now on sale. There's nothing happier or more classic than some good stripes.

Beware the blanket stitch! They usually start to unravel after a few washes.

Beware of Sundance textiles, be they clothes or bedding or whathaveyou. I live in Utah, and there's a catalog outlet store in Salt Lake City. I shop there occasionally for items @ 75% off, and have found that by and large the quality is also 75% off.

Can anyone vouch for their furniture? I was admiring it, but it's very pricey. Anyone know if it's (a) good quality (b) who they buy it from so I can look for deals?

so... the title is "5 things we love", but there are links to only 3 things, no? how hard would it be to link all 5... and have it make sense with the layout of the pictures...

Seems like the blanket stitching would be an easy do it yourself hack for regular old towels.

Any suggestions to make sure that embroidery thread or yarn or whatever wouldn't run? Could you wash it a couple times before you stitch? How could you do that without it getting all tangled up in the washing machine?

Sundance catalog has cute, but horrifically overpriced things. Joannalosangeles - post a link to the specific items you want (or send in a question to AT) and someone will probably identify the maker or another source for the item, which will typically be much less expensive.

I've bought a lamp from Sundance, which turned out to be Robert Abbey and about a year after I bought it was available e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e for a lot less. Le sigh.

I also bought a rug that I loved (never found it anywhere cheaper, so I guess that was a good buy!) and some clothes. I've been happy with everything I've bought from Sundance, but I've never bought any furniture. (Well, happy except for the price. Which I complain about. A lot.)

One of the pieces from the current Sundance catalog was recently profiled on AT, and commenters gave several other (cheaper) sources for it. Sundance used to have some craftsman style furniture, which I found locally for less, but not that much less.

Where's the link to the gray/red blanket?

Sundance furnishings are average in quality (better than ikea and target, not as good as Mitchell Gold), and certainly not worth the retail price.

However, you can feel pretty good about supporting some SunDance causes (film institute, buying up land in the Utah mountains to keep open spaces free of McMansions), which are partially funded by your purchase.

Feh, I have a tiny radio from them (not the one above, but similar) and it weirdly loses the station after a day or so (ie you carefully set a station and it comes in perfectly, but the next time you turn it on, it's all static. None of my other radios do this.
