We recently moved into a new place, and while it's not our first apartment, in a lot of ways it feels like it is. We're basically starting with a clean slate and we're combining our tastes with our significant other, so there's a lot of major decorating decisions to be made. The feature in Domino this month about upgrading you apartment from the dorm room look (on a budget), definitely resonated with us, so we were happy to see the author's suggestions for making a similar upgrade on the magazine's website.
The tips are helpful and concise, which is appreciated if you've got a major apartment overhaul to tackle. Sometimes it's amazing what a change of paint and some new lighting can do to a home. And if you need more help, why not sign up for the Fall Cure? Find out more information about it here.

I know polyamory is all the rage, but our significant other? Or should that be others?
down with "we"! down with "we"!
Make sure you have a very, very large bed for the significant others!
Hugh Hefner would be proud
yes, down with "we"!
oh, can't say i haven't wished the same before. sorry!
Can anyone tell me where i can find those metal frame chairs? I have a frame but i need to replace the canvas which ended up tearing from old age.
Those dining chairs! I want those chairs! Anyone know where I can get them?
This "editorial we" rule really needs to be reviewed. There are posts, like this one, where the individual named at the bottom of the entry is obviously the voice of the narrative. "Our significant other", really? I understand that there are posts where the writer is supposed to be speaking on behalf of AT, and that makes sense. But using "we" in posts like this one is just ridiculous.
afrobes - are you referring to the butterfly chairs? Those frames can be ordered here: http://www.lloydsoutdoor.com/butter1.htm.
the dining chairs are jens risom for knoll...check ebay and craigslist to assemble a set....or buy them new as they're still made and called the "risom side chair".
:-D okay, i see i am not the first one who hiccupped about the "we" again â¦
but "we're combining our tastes with our significant other" sounds like you will be at least a threesome. honestly, that rule is so silly ⦠(i must admit, though, that it makes for occasionally hilarius reading:-P )
jamiealyse, amen, AMEN!
count me in as hating the "we" thing.
Why on earth do any of you care about the "we?" Is this secretly an English grammar trends blog? Does the number of people involved change the decorating sense? Is this really a place for judging the behavior of others? For heaven's sake.
I took it to be the person speaking for both themself and their significant other, thus "we."
My tip is to begin with symmetry. Thus even if you do not have all the art pieces you want or are unsure of your style it will look better to the eye if it's symmetrical.
