We often think about the theme or motif we are going to use in a kid's bedroom, but sometimes the bathroom gets overlooked. We choose towels and rugs without thinking too much about a unifying theme. So we've put together 5 fun bathroom themes for kids that we hope might inspire you to dream up your own.
• Mario Brothers Bathroom at Woo Home: If you've got little gamers in the house, Mario Brothers is likely on your radar. Or choose another game that might inspire your kiddos, like Skylanders, Lego Star Wars, or MarioKart. Or go retro and get inspiration from this 8-bit bathroom.
• Book Lovers Bathroom at The Country Chic Cottage: Book lovers unite! This bathroom celebrates literature as a concept, but you could also choose a particular genre, author, or period.
• The Hungry Caterpillar Bathroom from Pottery Barn Kids: Here's one that focuses on a particular author, although in practice it's a celebration of an aesthetic. You could use other children's classics with strong imagery, like Curious George or Harold and the Purple Crayon, for a fun and unique space.
• Monkey Jungle Bathroom from Deanna's Stuff: Can you ever go wrong with monkeys? There are plenty of other habitats and animals to try: owls and mountains, coyotes on the prairie, or lizards in the desert.
• Rainbow Bathroom DIY at Insructables: Choosing one color to decorate the bathroom is common, but how about all of them? Or choosing a less popular color, like orange or purple? Perhaps try a particular way of treating color, like ombre or watercolor.
Have you used an unusual theme in your kids' bathrooms? Let us be inspired in the comments!

The Mario Brothers themed bathroom makes me laugh because of of our conference rooms at my office has the exact same wall stickers!
These are all seriously crazy.
That Mario bathroom makes me giddy. Oh for a second bathroom to play with!
these are amazing!
I don't get a 'kid' bathroom? Is it not just the main bathroom?
I would like to see a post about closet themes. Or maybe hallway themes. Or basement stairwell themes, or pantry themes. These are such neglected spaces when it comes to themes. Bathrooms should not get all the attention.
We have a bathroom we painted and decorated to look like the Haunted Mansion at Disney World (complete with glow in the dark eyes all over hidden. It's pretty cool!)
I love how the Mario bathroom is presented as a "kid bathroom" Nope, grown adults! Adults can have a weird fun bathroom too :)
I love the bathroom tiles in the last photograph... and I'm not a kid!
I love the Mario one and the pixelated/colored tiles one at the end. Gorgeous!
I like the book themed bathroom! Good place to read a book, on the toilet!
@hinmelb There are many times where kids have a bathroom that is considered theres. It could be a house that has the master bedroom on the first floor, with the kids rooms on the second. The bathroom upstairs then would be the kids bathroom. Or they could be jack and jill bathrooms. My sister has 2 full sized bathrooms upstairs (one off the hallway and a master bath) and a half bath downstairs for guests, so the second upstairs one is considered my nephew's bathroom.
cute ideas but our kid(s) dont have their own bathroom..let alone their own rooms(they will be sharing) we live in a small 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment in chicago...but if i could get away with it i would totally do super mario bros..lol
I want to see jmorri26's Haunted Mansion bathroom!
We're in middle of renovating our second-floor bathroom, which will be used for kids and guests (our room, and our much smaller bathroom, is on the third floor.) We've put in subway tiles on the walls and hexagon tiles for the floor--classics that can grow with our children--but for fun, we've followed the subway tile trope and are going with MTA as our decorating theme--a subway map shower curtain, an MTA night light, and subway signage (our children's initials, fortunately, are both NYC subway lines, plus I'm really tempted to get a "Flushing Meadows" sign, though my husband thinks it's in poor taste.) My dream was to find a Metrocard bath mat, but so far, no luck, so I may just have to get a bright yellow one and somehow DIY it. I think themed bathrooms can be a lot of fun, especially if the themed elements are easy to swap out when the theme gets old or outgrown! (Meanwhile, I'm already hatching plans for a National Parks themed powder room when we're ready for our next reno project...)
