IKEA's drop-leaf Muddus table is one of those small, unassuming pieces that can fit into a tight space. Depending on whether you flip the leaf up or down, it seats one or two people, and it's affordably priced at $60. Its small scale makes it a versatile piece that can be used in a few different ways...
- 1) Side Table: In AB Chao's home, it's a living room corner table, just big enough for a couple of artworks and a vase.
- 2) Laundry Table: A page from Living Etc. shows the Muddus used as a folding laundry table. When you need a surface to fold clothes, just pop up the leaf.
- 3) Kitchen Table: Rakka keeps hers underneath her kitchen counter. It can be pulled out to create extra surface space or a small dining area.
- 4) Outdoor Table: Nicole of Making It Lovely used two Muddus tables, side by side, to create a dining area for her front porch.
- 5) Desk: In a shed-turned-office, the Muddus is small enough to work as a desk.

It's one of the most unstable tables I've ever come across there. Unless you plan on putting nothing on it and never using it, don't buy it.
It looks great in photos but when I actually touched and saw one in person in Ikea, it felt cheap. I had never considered it for outdoor use, though. I'm definitely going to give it another look when I'm at Ikea again.
Well, it is cheap. I doubt it's made for heavy duty use. But I think it's cute. If you like it, it's worth checking out in person. I remember a lot of AT'ers saying how unstable Ikea's tulip table was, so I tested it out next time I was at Ikea and it was fine. Just depends on your use. Seems like it'd be fine for all of the above.

I come across old sewing tables similar to this one all the time at thrift stores that are a lot sturdier and are usually like $5. I have two thrifted ones—I've spray painted one silver and the other white, one holds my parakeet's cage and the other is my entryway table, they look great!
I bought a white one back in 2007 for my first apartment. I still use it and I love it. One of my favorite Ikea purchases ever.
i love ikea. but really dont like my black Muddus table. It looks great in most pictures and I actually got inspired to buy it by pictures on this site. But it in real life it looks cheap, not so much in the shop as in my home. Maybe its the black color that makes it worse. Anyway it does its job with a big tablecloth))))
i have a black muddus table. i wanted the red one. it's my craft table.
I don't know why this table has so many complaints. I bought a white one this year and I love it. It's a good desk (when the end in tucked down) or a good table. I used it as a workspace before and now it's outside as a patio table. I don't find it flimsy at all!
For people with a 'flimsy' muddus,
All you need to do is tighten the screws on the sides. Mine was fairly wobbly, but then I noticed that all of the screws had gotten very loose over time.
Took me a whole 30 seconds to fix it.
Just bought the Muddus yesterday in yellow as a small dining table and it will transition into a desk and a side table once we move into a bigger place in a couple of months--I like the fact that it is so flexible in that regard.
