I'm having a bit of a pest control problem at the moment and I'm not sure what to do about it. Obviously I've already made the run to the nearest store and picked up an all natural, pet safe ant killer &mdash but I want to explore more options and share a few with people in a similar situation.
There are so many different ways to approach pest control. Some buy that can of Raid and spray away, some buy all natural products, while others embrace the new critters into their home. Whichever way you prefer, here are some interesting posts on pest control:

Don't leave dirty dishes. Clean clean clean the kitchen. Don't leave uneaten food around and put out roach bait not the roach motel crap. That does dittly squat.
I'm currently having a roach problem. Where I live in Italy, they are as big as the palm of your hand ... uuugh! I miss the tiny brown San Francisco, kind! Anyway, our home is on three levels and I find them only on the ground/semi-underground level where we have the media room and play room (kitchen and dining are in the middle, bedrooms upstairs). For the life of me I cannot figure out where they are coming from.. outside?!?
We had a horrible problem with roaches in our apartment when we first moved in 3 years ago. They wre all coming from outside, mostly living in the monkey grass. I started liberally sprinkling Borax on all the monkey grass, the stairs leading up to the building, the porch and even the foyer when you first enter the building. We are the first apartment so they always seemed to come to us. I kept up the borax for a solid year, dispensing it every two weeks and now we rarely see any roaches inside or out.
Katt, thanks for the suggestions and the confirmation that... I'm not going nuts and living in a roach-infested home! In the meantime, I sprayed some super-strong bug-killer all around the windows and doors and in the two weeks I only found two, dead, near said windows and doors. I really did not want to go the poison route but... those suckers are huge, and I have to run to find my husband's shoe to kill them because they come around the edges of mine.. uuuuuuuuhck! (insert shiver here).
I would like to eradicate the whole colony more ecologically and in a way that the kids don't get any of this stuff in their mouth.
Anyone know what Borax is in Italian?
Thanks!
