Simplicity means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But whatever it might personally mean to you, we bet it has a little to do with making life easier — and more enjoyable. You don't have to give away all your possessions and move to the middle of the country to simply for your life — there are five ways you can make home a little more uncomplicated (and undemanding) by trying on these ideas for size.
1. Have less stuff
You hear this a lot around here. It's because accumulating stuff — from clothes to accessories to paper — is incredibly easy (and quick) to do. And letting go of stuff is hard and time-consuming. But being intentional with avoiding bringing unnecessary stuff into your home and actively decluttering on a regular basis will make life easier in tons of ways, from having less stuff to clean and store, to having less visual and mental clutter.
It's about automating the not-so-fun daily tasks that need to happen so that you have more time to do the things you enjoy to do. Coming up with an active (but not too overwhelmingly busy) daily routine that mixes in light cleaning tasks, encourages habits like immediately dealing with and filing mail and bills and mixing in mindful moments will simply life immensely.
3. Have a home command center
One centralized place in your home that houses all the un-fun, grown-up stuff that no one really likes doing (okay a few people love it). It should house your important files for easy reference (so you aren't always stress-searching for things you need last minute). It should have some sort of calendar that helps you track the near future. It could have a place for things you use and need daily so you don't have to look around for lost items all the time. Most importantly it should house your sanity — so you don't lose it by never knowing where anything important is.
4. Do things right when they need to get done
Immediately doing the dishes after you finish dinner. Putting your clothes away after you wear them. Using your organizational tools and tucking daily items away when you're finished. You know what all of these things have in common? When you do them, you don't let clutter stack up and don't leave yourself with spots you have to tidy up later. If you master one life-simplifying habit, make it this one. Swallow the medicine (work) now so that it doesn't get bitter (harder to do) the longer you put it off!
5. Ask for help and delegate
