Why I use color: I use it to set the stage for what I consider beatiful objects. The right steelworker grey to show off a farmhouse green, the same way good denim shows off a white t-shirt. I think the color and patina of the things within a room define it, the way different color books stack together, or the way wool looks against leather or chrome. This way the room is shifting and improvising in mood on a daily basis.

2 good color tips:

1. I avoid painting an entire room the same color, paint certain walls, leave others. Use the angles and the architecture of the room when painting.

2. If you decide on a color swatch, go one shade lighter.

2 good color resources:

1. There are beautifully rich, and weathered colors at flea markets. Look for old hardcover book covers, they often have amazing color combinations you may not have thought of.

2. Check you closet, use your wardrobe palette for ideas.
