The living room kind of falls alsleep after seeing the rest of the house. Why such a dull color there?

I have to ask: where did you get the modern lounge chair in the living room? I am in the market for one.

~Sara48: We chose that particular color for the living room for two reasons, one it extends into the hallway which leads to every room in the house so we needed a color that was somewhat neutral to lead into all the crazy colors. The second reason is that I got both couches as hand-me-downs and I needed something that would work well with the pattern of the fabric.

~NYS: The chair in the living room is actually a hand-me-down from my parents. It was the first piece of furniture they bought when they got married.

I love this because it's simple yet bold because of the colors. Plus, when you live in the midwest you need all the color you can get.

The paint colors are beautiful on their own. They're so lush, and the blue plus orange combo is arresting. But I think they're a little too much. Insofar as a wall is a backdrop for the furniture, people, and other objects in the room, I think your choices overpower everything (with the exception of the living room and maybe the kitchen - I'm kinda feeling the green).

I think this would be a lot more sophisticated if all the paint colors were toned down by one or two ticks, that's all.

But this is the home of a person who really loves color, and for that, I salute you.

The lounge chair is a Plycraft knockoff of the famous Eames lounge chair. Best found on Craigslist (where i got mine :)

FYI-The bedroom is actually a bit more colorful then the photo shows. The wall opposite the orange wall is green and the wall opposite the blue wall is also blue. I have a huge Goofy collection and the colors were inspired by his colors.

I think the license plate on the dresser says it best, "GAWRSH".

The bedspread looks great with those walls, and I like the way the carrot works with the orange wall. I don't think I could live with such bright colors myself, but they're very cheerful and fun.

Whoah. I like that you have a room inspired by something you love (Goofy)... but I'm a big fan of bringing in your bright colors as accents- especially when you are using TWO bright colors. mmadden hit the nail on the head when he said colors should serve as a backdrop. In that room, the colors SCREAM AT ME and HIT ME OVER THE HEAD, instead of being used in a clever, elegant way.

That said, much love for that kitchen and living room.

It's happy, bright here, subdued there... love it. Especcially the streamline vintage look in the livingroom with modern pieces.
And I love the big carrot. Genius.

What brand and colors are the blue and green?

Well, I'm pretty much in love with the kitchen area. It's fun and bright, but at the same time elegant. The green is darling with the b&w floors and the black chairs as well. I'm not crazy about any of the other rooms, though - I love the orange accent wall next to the bedspread, but I was pretty horrified to learn that the two walls not shown in the bedroom are two different, equally bright colors. It's vivid and bright, that's for sure, but there's nowhere for the eye to rest. I am reminded of why I hate clowns. I think the scheme in the office could be nice if the color was toned down a bit, or the artwork on the wall wasn't jockeying for position among the colorful - Personally, I couldn't think in a room that loud. I think I love the kitchen so much because it's the only room whose color scheme promotes the purpose of the room.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed this common tendency to paint less frequented rooms very bright and use neutral palettes in the TV/Living room? Not a bad thing, I've just noticed this reoccuring theme.

I'm probably in my office more than the living room. I had to paint the living room neutral because of the couches I inherited.
