Use wooden slats to add texture to plain walls: Inexpensive wooden slatting adds adds visual interest to the walls in a plain space. It's also a useful feature from which to hang items from art to towels. Leave it plain or paint it. Find it at stores such as Home Depot.
Add color in small doses: In an otherwise plain room, small pops of color have big impact. At the Ace, orange, covering the back of the door and accessories like curtain tiebacks, moves your eye around the room, energizing the space and making it feel larger than it is. (Note that the walls and slats in these rooms are normally white against which the touches of orange would have great impact. The rooms were painted for an experiment in sleeping in color I took part in.)
Soft headboard: Giant square pillows covered in dark denim sub for headboards at the Ace. Soft and forgiving, they not only add texture to the room, but they make the beds a great place to sit up and read or work. Have your upholsterer run one up in canvas or denim.
Fabric covered walls: Canvas covering the walls is not only decorative but practical too. Change the fabric and you've changed the look of the room. In a cooler climate, the fabric keeps the room warm and cozy.
Screw light sockets into the mirror: Light sockets screwed into the mirrors over the sink along one end of the room provide indirect lighting. The reflected light from the silver-tipped bulbs is not only flattering but the mirror acts to magnify the glow.

I love the colorful look of the first and third photos, and the slats would give me a place to hang towels, robes, etc. in my bathroom. I went right to the Home Depot site (then Lowes) & searched under 'slat,' 'slatted,' 'slatting,' etc. but only found shutters and trellises. Can anyone think of a better search term? Many thanks!
I live in a dusty area and all I can think about is having to dust the top of all those slats! I do love the look of it though, especially with the bright pops.
I have to say that none of these appeal to me (especially the light sockets screwed into the mirror).
The light socket looks like it is coming loose from the mirror. Me no likey.
I kinda like the slat idea and i love the color in small doses idea- just not in my home. It's a little pre-school for me.
