Name: Amy Csencsits
Location: Allentown, PA
Type: 4 bedroom cape cod. I own this home.

Why I use color:

I grew up in a boring home where all the walls were off-white, the carpets were beige and everything was just, well, blah. So when I bought my first home 2 years ago, I went wild! My bedroom is red, the living room is yellow, the office is lime green and the finished basment....well, the pictures will speak for themselves...

Attached are pictures of our finished basement that we use for entertaining. These were taken just before our Chinese New Year party this year (please ignore the crazy girl in the second picture!).

I think color really sets the mood of the room and brings personality to it. My guests always tell me that my home feels warm and inviting and I think the colors have a lot to do with that.

2 Good color tips:

1. You can bring color to a room with inexpensive decorative accents like throw pillows, blankets, candles etc. That way it won't put a huge dent in your wallet when you want to make a change.

2. Take note of your everyday surroundings for inspiration. Some of the best ideas I've gotten for decorating and using color came from restaurants I've been to,a catalog layout or even clothing. The inspiration for my latest project, my guest bedroom, came from a tshirt I bought at the shore.

2 good color resources:

1. www.diynetwork.com

2. home decor catalogues like cb2, west elm, chiasso, etc
