Sprout Side Table
This year, as we have a 10-month old son who is actively trying to get to the tree (which we have placed on a high side table) all the time, we have decided to forget about any of the glass ornaments we have. We will be baking some hard cinnamon cookies to hang instead. They are not edible and the cinnamon oil in them would make our small apartment smell Christmassy! Just bake them as you would regular cookies minus the sugar and additional cinnamon and cinnamon oil.
Last year, my son (then 7) and I made these ornaments out of string molded around balloons, glitter and glue. They are beautiful, inexpensive, and not hard to make. We gave some away as gifts but kept a few for ourselves. I plan to make some smaller ones this year to go over a short string of Christmas lights.

I use candy canes for the tail though (but remember a candy cane left in a crate (even in the basement) will melt!)
We have a faux tree and over the years the branches aren't so great with cats pulling on them so I came up with a great solution to make the tree look fuller. After I put on all of our ornaments I stuff bundles of faux flowers with leaves and different nosegays in the bigger holes. The tree looks very lush and full and people love the different things peaking out!
I think is a good idea this one from an old light bulb filled with paper ribbon
