There has been a flurry of inspiring vertical gardens lately, like these ones recently posted on Apartment Therapy, and this one is definitely one of the most ambitious that we've seen...

The Athenaeum Hotel, in London has recently commissioned French botanist Patrick Blanc to build an 8-story vertical garden along the facade of the hotel.

Comprised of over 12,000 plants, this structural feat is an awe-inspiring forest. A plastic-coated aluminum frame is fastened to the wall that allows for a rainwater irrigation system to keep the plants moist as they root into a synthetic felt layer.

The images are amazing, and you can feast your eyes on more amazing vertical greenery on Wired Magazine's feature of The Athenaeum Hotel's antigravity forest here.
