Lately, I've been finding cheap, simple, and really well designed things at Target. (things = furniture, dishware, & bedding)
This is a bit obvious, but large mirrors help create depth and are easy solutions to filling large, empty walls. Use them sparingly, however...
What inspired you?
The previous tenants had painted every surface (walls, doors, fireplace) a bright, daffodil yellow. With hours of direct morning sunlight, it was too intense for the space. This inspired me to simplify. [more below...]
...I chose light grays and cool whites and kept the furniture light and simple, trying to maintain an airy openness that would work with the natural light, high ceilings, and view of the park across the street. [Because its kind of interesting as an accent, I've left (temporarily?) some of the yellow peeking out on the edge of the front window mouldings.]
