We have officially crossed the threshold into the dog days of summer (which actually has nothing to do with canines, but rather the dog star Sirius…who knew?). To commemorate the stretch of heat (and lethargy) associated with this period, we scoured Etsy and rounded up 9 super cool, modern pet houses—from cat friendly cardboard to designer edifices—for your furry friends to ride out the season.
If you live in Southern California, you can put in an order for one of these made-to-order mid-century modern dog houses. Honestly, they’re so cool, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the spark to the tiny house movement. The one shown above runs around $299, and part of the proceeds of every sale goes to a local dog shelter.
Every cool cat needs a crash pad, especially one made from sustainable walnut and a furry base pillow. It runs $189 with fur insert, $159 without (for the more minimalistic cat or dog, of course).
My enormous, panda-bear sized family cat would never make it through the hole of this modern cat house, but if your feline is normal in build, I’m sure they’ll be just fine. In the case that they puff up after a hefty meal, though, the front is removable for easy access. For $450, it’s nice to know the 14″ structure could double as a low side table (right?).
