- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I like to think our home has the most stuff in the smallest package. 18' ceilings, wood burning fireplace, loft space, Juliette balcony, and original mahogany millwork are what make it so special. As a designer these are the charms that are hard to recreate so it was a pleasure to make them shine.
Apartment Therapy | Saving the world, one room at a time
Q: I am moving soon into this 789 square foot apartment, and am puzzled about how to arrange my trapezoidal living/dining space. I will not have a TV, so I do not need to have a viewing wall of any sort. Any furniture arrangement suggestions to utilize this strangely angled space? I would also welcome any low-budget furniture suggestions (sofas, coffee table, dining furniture). I tend to like neutral colors and soft lines and occasional pops of color — along the lines of the "Organic Modern," "Simple Chic," and "Happy Modern" decor styles on Apartment Therapy. Thanks!!
Pieces that can pull double duty are always welcome in small homes. These 10 ottomans and benches (plus a trunk thrown in the mix) open up to offer storage for books, blankets, shoes — you name it.
MoreOur favorite designy temporary tattoos have some temporary new digs. Tattly vending machines are touring New York City retailers, dispensing stick-on ink for just a quarter. There are Tattly Randomizers currently at West Elm, Makerbot, and the IFC Center, and they will be traveling to different venues through July.
In other news, the only Delaware Frank Lloyd Wright house is for sale, and check out a fun Google Maps guessing game. See the headlines after the jump.
MoreCanadians take a lot of ribbing, but one look at Tamara Kaye-Honey's work will put an end to that. The former Northerner, who moved to Los Angeles in 2003, quickly made a name for herself. This is a woman who knows what she's doing. Her interiors are traditional without being stuffy, she knows how to use a vintage piece without getting mired in the vernacular of the past, and she has a former fashion buyer's flair for mixing pattern and shape without it looking overly theatrical or clownish. You were saying?
Back in 2008, when Ainsley Ryan and Chris Showalter bought a fixer-upper loft in a former Ex-Lax factory in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood, they commissioned an architect to design something a little unusual — an OSB-clad 'pod' containing a master bedroom, a bathroom, and a little nook for their infant daughter.
