This is Katie's table. It's been in their family home for the last 12 years and it was sitting sad and lonely in the garage. It's a basic find from IKEA and though it looks like it had little life in it, that couldn't be further from the truth. Katie has revamped it and by looking at it now, you wouldn't have a clue it was the same piece. Seriously, you have to see this.
Katie had a vision that many of us might not have been so inspired to see and we're so glad she's shared this project with us! With a drill and a hand saw, this old table went from ho hum to holy smokes!
It had detail added to the sides and a fresh coat of paint and we're pretty sure we've never been so inspired by a $69 table before. It's a great project to store away for the next time you need an office desk, a cool focal point or are just looking to dress up a Craigslist find.
Make sure to stop in and say hi to Katie and check out more details on how she completed the project over at Matsutake.

GASP! So awesome. I have a cheap Ikea table like that. The hubs and paid $300 cash for it and four chairs when we were newlyweds. Two kids later, the thing is a hot mess and relegated to the spare room, piled high with junk.
What a transformation! *calls the hubs*
Wow! Great job - I love it!
Forget the table, that chair is awesome!

I love the table, chair and overall styling of the vignette. Beautifully done!
Thanks so much, you guys! And thanks for the chair and rug love. The chair was a $5 garage sale find that I recovered with an old Mexican dress (good eye, ramenandjello) and I made the rug from upholstery velvet remnants. $4/yd on the remnant table!
very nice. Love the chair too!
Love it!

BRILLIANT!
I've been looking for a table to go in my entry hallway, and while this Ikea table would be too large, the hack has really changed my ideas about what I'm looking for to go in that space! Thank you!!!!
Bravo! What you did with the chair and table is spectacular! I'm jealous of your think-outside-the-boxiness.

You guys are so incredibly nice! Thank you! Yes, Chocky, I made the bull head, and yes, JqUrbana, I gained a desk and lost a garage table. The saw is currently sitting on the floor.
