If you've ever looked at those gorgeous Paris apartments with their gorgeous moldings and thought "I wonder what that would look like in black?" well then, you're in luck. And if you haven't, you're in luck, too, because this inky black space in Paris' 9th arrondissement is a treat for everyone.
The suite, an office "designed as a living space," is a creation of Parisian design firm Festen. Enormous floor-to-ceiling windows keep all that black from feeling too funereal, and amp up the drama by highlighting all that delicious, frothy texture.
On one side of the room, a modern red sconce pops out from the wall so much that I initially thought it was some kind of flaw in the photo. It grabs the eye immediately, almost seeming to float in front of the wall.
If there's one thing I'd add to this space, it would be more color. Black and dark grey can make a beautiful backdrop for color, especially jewel tones, as seen in this interior from Elle Decoration, via Apartment Therapy.
Incidentally, another thing this space has in common with the Paris one is a proliferation of moldings on the wall. So if you find yourself faced with a room that has a lot going on architecturally and want to try something a little off the beaten path, why not experiment with black?
