When I flip through a FLOR catalog I am always in awe of the beautiful photos. I had assumed the rooms mere mock-ups, created in a photographer's studio somewhere in a beautiful loft especially for the catalog shoots. As it turns out, I was way off…

Courtesy of the FLOR blog, we get this behind the scenes peek at a photo shoot for the Spring catalog. That's where I learned that FLOR uses real homes, often with the homeowners as models. It's kind of like our house tours!

I love seeing how in the top photo above the room is nice but it really takes the lighting (and skills) of the photographer to make it really go pow!

In the untouched photo of the photo wall, I'm a little like 'ooh that's a bit much'. But then when I see it styled up for the FLOR catalog (below), I'm ready to rush out and start scooping up old snapshots to recreate! Ah, the power of good photography and styling!

Check out the full behind the scenes post on the FLOR blog.

I love how they style their catalog... And you're absolutely right! What a difference good lighting and the right angle make in a photo!
I love seeing the before and after shots. I'd like to start doing interior design photography, so this is a great learning tool for me. On FLOR's blog they have two more behind the scenes posts.
Love flor catalogues! Love their products, too!
I do love FLOR's products but when I look at their catalogs I'm always wondering where I can get the furniture and if it's available for sale in their catalog too. I guess that's just from a mind of an Interior Designer.
The photos are pretty to look at (stylized and all) because they were taken from the nicest angle. But in real life, these rooms are cluttered and ugly with all those stuff in there.
I wonder if they give the ppl whose homes they shoot in the flor tiles for free? (I am assuming they didn't already own the tiles, especially seeing as these are new styles.) Pretty cool.
I'm an avid Flor-er myself and this is quite interesting. I'll have to check the site for the other behind the scenes featurettes. I saw some boxes of Interface (the contract/commercial version of Flor) at my local thrift store and snapped up 20 tiles for $30 a few months ago. One of my best thrifts ever.
love FLOR. A clever company.
One thing we should all learn from this Flor photo shoot - nothing in real life looks as good as when it is arranged by a professional stylist and photographed by a professional photographer. That includes shoots of people too, except they have additional help from photoshop.
cyberval has the right idea. Remember that your house (and you) are still gorgeous even if you don't have a professional stylist and photographer.
Oh, and my house *is* a Flor catalog, why won't they come photograph ME!!!!
It's cool to see what happens behind the scenes. Like a trip to the sausage factory.
Some previous comments remind me of a book by a women's wear writer who'd worked backstage in many fashion shows, where she saw preparing models being made up, coiffed, and dressed. She wrote that when they're rushing about naked, except for being thinner even top models look the same as the rest of us.
